Gas Prices Rising at Fastest Pace Since Early November

Rose White, Public Affairs Director for AAA Nebraska, says in the last 10 days, motorists in the state have seen a substantial jump in gas prices.

White says that’s because crude oil prices increased $5 a barrel in the U.S. trading market and processed fuel rose 34 cents a gallon during that same period.

She says oil companies are cutting production because prices have fallen too low to remain competitive so those cuts are putting pressure on market prices.  But White says there is reason to be optimistic…

"Although we have seen a .19 cent jump in gas prices just during the past week, we have to keep in mind that prices are still .51 cents lower than this same time a year ago and a $1.59 a gallon lower than prices reported two years ago.  And with crude oil at $34 a barrel and positive inventory reports continuing, prices should remain very favorable for all of us vacationing this summer.”

White says Omaha’s gas prices are approximately five cents lower than the state average, which is about $1.80 a gallon.
