Governor details Talent and Innovation Initiative

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Governor Dave Heineman says the Talent and Innovation Initiative will grow the private sector and Nebraska's economy.

Heineman detailed the four-part initiative during a news conference Tuesday. It's a $16.5 million package of economic development tax credits and incentives. One of those initiatives is the Nebraska Internship Program. Governor Heineman says that program could create 500 to 750 new internships each year for Nebraska students.

Another initiative is the Business Innovation Act. It's designed to help Nebraska startups and small business integrate new technology in to their operations. Governor Heineman says the goal is to help those companies with research, development, and marketing.

More than half of the funding for the Talent and Innovation Initiative would come from existing state programs.
