Council Bluffs, IA – Iowa lawmakers return to session Monday with a new Governor and a divided Legislature.

November's election resulted in a Republican-controlled House and a Democrat-controlled Senate. Former Governor Terry Branstad won election over Democrat Chet Culver. Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal of Council Bluffs says the Legislature must focus this session on job creation.

"Our priorities are to do everything we can to put Iowans back to work," Gronstal says. "We think that was the most important message of this fall's election, Iowans want us to do things to improve our economy, create more small businesses and put more Iowans back to work."

Gronstal says he won't call a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage to the Senate floor if one is introduced. Three Iowa Supreme Court justices who ruled in favor of gay marriage were ousted in the November election.
