Healthy Families America program launched in Douglas County

100 low-income pregnant and new moms in Douglas County will be a part of the Healthy Families America program.

The Douglas County Health Department is launching the home-visit program. Health Department Division Chief Mary Balluff says Healthy Families America provides education and support.

"The program is actually for pregnant women, and we’d like to enroll their infants up to age three months. So if we can have the mother come in when she’s pregnant, then she’ll get the greatest benefit, because the program is not only about health, but also how to work with your child to help them learn and to create the safest, healthiest environment you can for your child."

The Douglas County Health Department is partnering with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Lutheran Family Services, and the Nebraska Children’s Home Society to offer the Healthy Families program.
