Heartland 2050 Vision Approved by MAPA Council of Officials

Metropolitan Area Planning Agency’s Council of Officials unanimously approved the Heartland 2050 Vision earlier this month.

Greg Youell, Executive Director of MAPA, says the Heartland 2050 Vision is the result of public input over the last 18 months.

Eight counties in Nebraska and Iowa came together to work on a long term vision for the future of our metro area including how we will grow and how we will get around.

As part of the Heartland 2050 process, Youell says an action plan was developed.

"That has a long list of some project ideas and opportunities for us to work on together regionally.  And that’s something that as we move into the implementation and set up the executive committees and working committees, they will be working on prioritizing and figuring out which of the items on the action plan should be the first ones to move forward.”

Youell says MAPA will be going out to cities and counties over the next few months and asking them to take a formal action to show a sign of support for the Heartland 2050 Vision.
