The Heartland 2050 Winter Summit takes place Thursday

The Heartland 2050 Winter Summit takes place this Thursday, March 22nd, at the Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Paul Schmitz, CEO of Leading Inside Out and Senior Advisor at The Collective Impact Forum, is the keynote speaker.

Schmitz says his intent is to share stories and examples about how communities have come together to solve seemingly intractable problems through a new form of collaboration called Collective Impact.

He explains Collective Impact is when you align all of the organizations that work on an issue so they no longer do their work on their own serving people here and there, but rather collectively move to a population level result.

"And that disconnect we see so often between lots of great programs doing good work but not actually solving the problem.  So Collective Impact is about how you organize organizations as a system to increase graduation rates, to reduce teen pregnancy, to increase homeownership, whatever the population results are.  What you end up doing is finding it takes different kinds of strategies and ways of working.”

Schmitz will speak at 9:15 a.m. during the Heartland 2050 Winter Summit.

Following his presentation, there will be breakout sessions focusing on several successful local projects that are happening due to collaboration.

Registration, which includes lunch, is available at H2050summit.eventbrite.com.
