Heartland Walk for Warmth to help heating assistance programs
By Katie Knapp
Omaha, NE – The first-ever Heartland Walk for Warmth is scheduled for February First at Heartland of America Park. The Salvation Army, United Way of the Midlands and American Red Cross Heartland Chapter are teaming up for the walk. Jamie Moore of the United Way says last year thousands of people called the three agencies requesting assistance with paying their utility bills. She says while the need is increasing, federal money through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance or LIHEAP program is dwindling. Funds raised during the walk will be distributed among the three agencies' assistance programs.
