Heat Advisory, Air Quality Action Day in Omaha metro

A heat advisoryis in effect Friday for the KIOS listening area, along with an Air Quality Action Day.

MAPA says an Air Quality Action Day is issued when there are elevated ozone levels. That can cause respiratory difficulties in people with conditions such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.

The heat advisory is in effect from 1pm to 9pm.  The National Weather Service says temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s with a heat index of up to 105 degrees.

At least 24 people have been treated at Omaha hospitals this week for heat-related illnesses.
