Omaha, NE – The Heat Aid Program is a partnership of the Salvation Army and Metropolitan Utilities District. Salvation Army spokeswoman Susan Eustice says last year more than 2,000 households were helped by the program. She expects at least that many will call this year. Eustice says while requests for assistance are increasing, the amount of money available through the federal LIHEAP program is dwindling. She attributes the surge in requests to rising heating oil and gasoline prices. Heating bill assistance will be provided through the end of May.
