Heineman named Trump's honorary Nebraska campaign chairman

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Gov. Dave Heineman has been chosen as Donald Trump's honorary campaign chairman in Nebraska and will appear with him and current Gov. Pete Ricketts in Omaha.

The current and former governors are expected to campaign at a Trump rally Friday at Eppley Air Field. Nebraska state Sen. Beau McCoy of Omaha will serve as the campaign's state chairman. Seven other Nebraska lawmakers have also endorsed Trump.

Heineman says it's time for Republicans to unite around Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. Trump is set to appear at Omaha's Eppley Airfield at 4 p.m.

Heineman left office in January 2015 as Nebraska's longest-serving governor.

Ricketts confirmed earlier this week that he is supporting Trump as the party's nominee.
