Heineman names new Lieutenant Governor

Governor Dave Heineman has named a State Senator from Omaha as Nebraska’s new Lieutenant Governor.

Heineman’s office announced this morning that Senator John Nelson will be the new Lieutenant Governor. Nelson was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2007. He’s served on the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee.

Nelson will be sworn in Monday afternoon.

Lavon Heidemann stepped down earlier this month as Lieutenant Governor after an order of protection was issued against him by his sister following a family situation.
