Hep to the Holidays

Cool Yule Jazz program airs Thursday on KIOS.

Jazz can be cool at Christmastime, too. Listen to Hep to the Holidays, a special program airing Thursday on KIOS. This annual holiday tribute program celebrates the season with plenty of cool-Yule jazz, including:

* Shorty Rogers' take on The Nutcracker

* Pianist Bill Evans having some vocal fun with "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" (as well as the backstory on how the song came to be written)

* Guitarist Emily Remler's luminous version of "Snowfall"

* Horace Silver and singer Andy Bey doing Silver's "Peace"

* Poet Sascha Feinstein reading his poem about the legendary Miles Davis-Thelonious Monk Christmas Eve 1954 recording session.

The program is part of the Night Lights series produced by WFIU at Indiana University. Hep to the Holidays airs at 8:00pm Thursday on KIOS.
