Holiday Lights Festival starts Thursday

Downtown Omaha

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Holiday Lights Festival kicks off on Thanksgiving Day at 6:00 p.m. with the annual lighting ceremony.

Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle will illuminate the 2010 lighting display. Lights will adorn trees along 16th Street from Howard to Dodge Streets and 10th Street from Douglas Street to Abbott Drive. Mayor Suttle says highlights of the Festival include the ConAgra Foods Ice Rink, the Wells Fargo Family Festival and the Sounds of the Season. Additionally, two new events are featured this year. The German Holiday Market features German classic foods and drinks as well as giftware and entertainment. And Dickens in the Market returns this year after a 20-year hiatus.

The lighting display will be on each evening from 5:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. through January 9th. For more information, the web site is www.holidaylightsfestival.org.
