By Katie Knapp Schubert
Omaha, NE – A former strip club in Omaha's Park Avenue neighborhood will be the new home of a community center.
InCOMMON Community Development plans to open the Park Avenue Community Center in the former Sheri's Show Club location at Park Avenue and Leavenworth Streets in Omaha. InCOMMON executive director Christian Gray says it'll take about two months to clean up the building and turn it in to a community gathering space.
Gray says they plan to offer case management as well as personal development workshops there. "Job readiness is certainly one of those. We've had some conversations with big gardens and talking about community gardening models, and working with food preservation and food preparedness models, food co-ops, other ways that gets residents involved in their own empowerment and success."
Gray says it'll take about two months to clean up the building and turn it in to a community center. inCOMMON hopes to offer case management, job readiness, and personal development workshops at the site.
The building that'll house Park Avenue Community Center was bought late last year by Kohll's Pharmacy. Gray says Kohll's owners donated the space to use as a community center for 12 months.
