International Conference on Marxian Theory Holds Symposium at Creighton

"The Current Economic Crisis and its Roots: Perspectives from the USA and Europe" is the title of a symposium taking place at Creighton on Wednesday night.

Patrick Murray, philosophy professor at Creighton, says the symposium features Riccardo Bellofiore, political economy professor from Italy, and Tony Smith, philosophy professor from Iowa State University.

Murray says the two speakers are both members of a research group that works in the area of Marxian Theory. He says the group looks closely at issues within the Capitalist mode of production, something Murray believes is important in light of ongoing economic troubles.

"The last three months of 2008 in the U.S., household wealth went down over five trillion dollars in three months.  So what’s happening there?  And what kind of theories of the Capitalist economy can shed some light on events like that?”

The symposium is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Creighton’s Harper Center.  For details, click here.
