International experts on bullying are in town for a two-day conference this week

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is bringing seven international experts to Omaha for a two-day conference on bullying.

Dr. Patricia Newman is the Executive Director of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. She says R.E.S.P.E.C.T. presents programming for about 40,000 students across Nebraska and Iowa during the school year. But during the summer, the organization tries to do something special for the adults who work with these kids. Dr. Newman says this week, the panel will discuss bullying, cyber-bullying and the impact of bullying on children, "We will be presenting some of our programming, techniques and strategies using theatre throughout the day. So our goal is to present information to adults, just like we do for kids, and then have them learn how to work with different strategies and behaviors and choices and communication techniques, in order to help kids process."

The two-day conference takes place today and tomorrow at the Omaha Marriott. For more information, the website is respect2all.org.
