Chris talks to Paul (12:30)

Omaha, Nebraska – An accomplished woodwind artist and educator, Paul Scea is a jazz musician at the vanguard of today's progressive jazz scene.

Paul Scea has performed with hundreds of nationally known jazz and pop artists. He is heavily influenced by 60's avant-garde players such as John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp, and Pharaoh Sanders. Scea's ability to create compositions that combine melody and atonality is a rare gift.

Examples of this are presented on two recent recordings with guitarist Steve Grismore, with whom Scea has worked with for many years-2006's Well Behaved Fish and this years' Contemporary Residents.

Paul Scea is also an active composer, arranger, clinician and an Artist Affiliate with United Musical Instruments. He is currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Associate Director of the World Music Center at West Virginia University. Scea holds degrees from Western Washington University and the University of Iowa.

Last Call host Chris Cooke will present a recent interview with Paul Scea on tonight's broadcast, in addition to music from the noted reedman, bandleader, composer and educator.
