Iowa Attorney General warns of foreclosure scam

By Katie Knapp

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Attorney General's Office is warning of a new scam targeting homeowners who are facing foreclosure. Attorney General Tom Miller says scammers are contacting homeowners by phone, mail, e-mail or in person, offering a so-called foreclosure rescue in exchange for hundreds of dollars. Miller says the scammers have no intention of helping homeowners and are merely scamming people.

If you're contacted by one of these scammers, Miller says you shouldn't pay an advance fee or sign any papers. You can contact Miller's office at 888-777-4590 or www.iowaattorneygeneral.org if you're a victim of one of these scams.
