Iowa Board of Pharmacy considering whether to legalize marijuana for medicinal use

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Council Bluffs, Iowa – The Iowa Board of Pharmacy is taking public comment about whether or not marijuana should be legalized for medical use.

The board held the last of four public hearings Wednesday in Council Bluffs. 13 states have legalized marijuana for medicinal use. Susan Frey, Vice Chairman of the Board of Pharmacy, says the board must decide if marijuana should be moved to a different controlled substance schedule and, if so, what the implications would be.

Frey says board members hope to make a decision before the Iowa Legislature re-convenes in January.
