Iowa House backs tax credits for wind energy

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The project completion deadline and tax credits for wind energy and other renewable energy projects would be extended under a bill overwhelmingly approved by the Iowa House.

The House voted 91-4 Wednesday to approve the measure. It now returns to the Senate for final consideration.

The legislation would extend the deadline to complete wind energy and other renewable energy projects in the state from Jan. 1, 2015, to Jan. 1, 2017. With this extension, a 10-year operational tax credit for these projects would also be extended to 2027.

Another provision in the bill would allow methane gas, landfill gas and biogas to be used as fuel at these facilities.

Rep. Daniel Kelley, a Newton Democrat, says the incentives move renewable fuel use forward in Iowa.
