Iowa legislative session spills over into day 108

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Legislative leaders are pushing members to settle their differences on spending bills and wrap up the session that already is more than week past its anticipated end.

The $1.9 billion Health and Human Services budget containing money for Medicaid, mental health and other social services programs has gone to the governor after passage Tuesday.

Several budget bills remain, however, including a large infrastructure spending bill and a catch-all spending measure that usually attracts contentious amendments. This year gun issues, abortion language and a gas tax are among the 15 amendments tacked on.

Legislative leaders had hoped to be done Tuesday, but budget negotiations dragged on.
