Iowa man accused of attempted murder in custody after escape

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A 39-year-old man accused of attempted murder has been taken into custody after escaping from an Omaha hospital where he was being treated for stab wounds.

The Daily Nonpareil reports David Leroy McKee of Council Bluffs left the hospital Wednesday afternoon, and authorities were unsure of his whereabouts. He was being treated following a stabbing incident Sunday.

Officials say McKee was in fair condition Wednesday but still needed medical care. Police weren't on scene guarding the room.

McKee was charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary and felony domestic abuse assault in connection with a report Sunday of a man threatening his estranged wife and another woman. One woman told police that McKee broke in and tried to choke her, so she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him.
