Iowa principal hurt in neighborhood incident, officials say

GLENWOOD, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say the principal of Glenwood Community High School has been injured in a neighborhood incident that involved a shooting.

Mills County Attorney Tricia McSorley said Monday that the principal, Richard Hutchinson, was one of three people treated for injuries Sunday evening. One of them was shot, but McSorley didn't say whether that person was Hutchinson or say what injuries Hutchinson has suffered.

Glenwood Community Schools Superintendent Devin Embray notified parents and staffer about the incident via email Monday. Embray says the district has no reason to believe that staff or students are in any danger, but he says the district has beefed up security as a precaution. He also says the incident involved Hutchinson and his family.

Glenwood police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating.
