Iowa West Foundation awards $6.4 million in grants for education, community projects

The Iowa West Foundation has awarded $6.4 million to 21 organizations for community and educational programs. The grants include multi-year funding for seven organizations. Iowa West president and CEO Pete Tulipana says this is the first time they’ve awarded multi-year funding. The seven organizations support programs for children and families.

Tulipana says Iowa West is also forming a coalition to focus on place-making through infrastructure and amenities.

"This initiative has brought those five organizations together under one umbrella and created an organization that we believe will have the capacity to have a significantly increased impact in the areas of community development, which includes real estate development, neighborhood engagement, design, and activation of public spaces."

The five organizations include Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs, Bluffs Downtown, and the Pottawattamie County Development Corporation.

Projects being supported by the latest round of grant funding include mentoring, after school programs, and rural arts and culture development.
