The Omaha Community Playhouse will produce Ella, Feb. 28-March 30, 2014. Ella is the powerhouse story and musical revue of iconic Jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. As this legend prepares for her most challenging performance, she recalls her life’s tribulations and how she found solace in music. Ella’s renowned voice transports audiences to another time with classics such as “A-Tisket, A-Tasket,” “You Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “Cheek to Cheek” and “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off.” This moving and dazzling revue will astound and delight audiences. The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra will present Hot, Hot, Hot! featuring Doug Hinrichs and Joey Gulizia on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 7:30 pm. Omaha Performing Arts welcomes legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter to the Holland Center in April. Showtime is April 2 at 7:30pm Shorter is one of the most significant jazz saxophonists in history. His contributions to jazz as a member of the Miles Davis quintet and subsequent early jazz-rock recordings of the Davis ensemble are profound. Shorter is also known for co-founding the supergroup Weather Report with Joe Zawinul that recorded and toured for 15 years to worldwide acclaim. As a leader of his own groups and an essential jazz composer, Shorter has further staked his claim on being one of the most important artists in jazz.

Cornetist and bandleader Jim Cullum and his Riverwalk Jazz Band will appear as part of the
Crescendo Concert Series hosted by the Dundee Presbyterian Church. Showtime is Sunday April 6th at 7:00PM at Dundee Presbyterian Church, 5312 Underwood Avenue in Omaha.
Cullum has made the study of classic jazz his life's work. Cullum's seven-piece ensemble specializes in jazz and popular song from the turn of the 20th century to the mid-1940's. The ensemble transcends the jazz genre, brining its original compositions, high energy and virtuosity to the form.
