Live Jazz performances by some of today's top jazz artists will take place this year at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Omaha Performing Arts presents jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton in “After Blue” The Joni Mitchell Project at the Scott Recital Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Two shows will be presented on Friday, March 27, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 the day of the show, and are available at TicketOmaha.com, 402.345.0606 or at the Ticket Omaha Office inside the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St. Sutton’s performance is a part of the 2014/15 1200 Club Series.
Born in Omaha in June 1963, Tierney Sutton is a jazz vocalist deemed “a serious jazz artist who takes the whole enterprise to another level” by The New York Times. A six-time Grammy® nominee as both a recording artist and arranger, Sutton is considered a “singer’s singer,” but often also described as a “musician’s singer” who uses her voice like an instrument. She earned her fifth consecutive Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album for her 2013 album, After Blue, an intimate, jazz-inspired re-imagining of the music of Joni Mitchell. Her two performances in Omaha will feature songs from that album performed in a trio format with guitar virtuoso Larry Koonse.
Sutton has headlined in recent years at The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and Jazz At Lincoln Center. She appears on film and television soundtracks including The Cooler as well as on television commercials for brands such as BMW, Yoplait Yogurt and Coke. Her work in the Tierney Sutton Band has led to her selection as Jazzweek’s Vocalist of the Year.
