Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill is a one-woman play that showcases the life and music of Billie Holiday. Showing this month and next in Omaha,  Tiffany White-Welchen portrays tragic blues singer Billie Holiday in this one-woman show, the first to be presented in the new home of the Performing Artists Repertory Theatre. Holiday’s career and astonishing talent were dimmed by her drug and alcohol addictions, and she died penniless. The show’s accompanist is Ric Swanson, playing a century-old piano that once was in a hotel in Carroll, Iowa. Theater board member Rob Lohman obtained and refurbished the upright piano after the hotel closed. The play also features Steve Gomez on bass — and a small dog playing Holiday’s pet.  The play takes place in South Philadelphia in March 1959. Billie Holiday is performing in a run-down bar, during one of her last performances before her death in July 1959. "Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill" runs September 11th-October 24th, at the Performing Artists Repertory Theatre, 7400 Dodge Street in Omaha.
