Jazz on the Green kicks off July 7th

Jazz on the Green at Midtown Crossing kicks off July 7th and runs six consecutive Thursdays through August 11th.  Concerts begin at 7:30 each evening on the permanent stage of The Pavilion at Turner Park.

Kendra Whitlock Ingram, Vice President of Programming and Education for Omaha Performing Arts, says Jazz on the Green offers a mix of excellent local performers and national touring artists.

She says a variety of different styles of jazz will be offered from Latin to Blues to Big Band.

"We’ve had a lot of positive feedback recording the New Orleans style jazz groups so we have two of those this year: Cha Wa which is a blend of traditional Mardi Gras rhythms and a New Orleans-funk vibe.  And then we also have Davina and the Vagabonds who is just blowing up around the country.”

Other performers include Blue House with the Rent to Own Horns and Essencia Latina.

Ingram says this year, Omaha Performing Arts is expanding its offerings of pre-show entertainment which will include performances by bands from BluesEd, a local blues education program, before three of the concerts.

There will also be dance lessons available at two of the concerts, one featuring salsa and one highlighting swing.
