Jazz on the Green kicks off next month

Jazz on the Green runs six consecutive Thursdays in Turner Park at Midtown Crossing starting July 9th.

Kendra Whitlock Ingram, Vice President of Programming and Education for Omaha Performing Arts, says new this year, there will be pre-show entertainment before all of the concerts.

Ingram says students from BluesEd, the youth artist development program of the Blues Society of Omaha, will perform before the pros for three of the concerts. And there will be dance lessons with Omaha Ballroom before the other two.

She says this year offers concertgoers another great lineup of musicians.

"Stooges Brass band opens the series.  They’re a New Orleans-based brass band and they are known for a party vibe in the house so it will be a true New Orleans show and it’s a great way for us to open the season. The second week we have the Puerto Rica- based band Plena Libre.  And they are a jazz band that has different types of traditional Puerto Rican music styles.”

Ingram says other bands performing at Jazz on the Green include Sonny Knight and the Lakers, Mia Borders and the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra.

Jazz on the Green concerts begin at 7:30 Thursday evenings July 9th through August 13th.  The pre-show entertainment is held from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.
