Jazz Heritage series with The USAF Airmen of Note airs Thursday

First program will feature Vocalist Kurt Elling.By KIOS

Omaha, Nebraska – KIOS will present the three-part 2009 Jazz Heritage series with The USAF Airmen of Note and special guests at 8:00PM on Thursdays in June beginning June 11th.

Part one of this series, airing June 11th will feature Kurt Elling. Vocalist Kurt Elling of Chicago is one of the preeminent young jazz singers today. To date, he's received seven Grammy Award nominations, and six consecutive years at the top of the Downbeat Critics and Jazz Times Readers' polls. Elling's four-octave baritone voice displays a technical facility, emotional depth and awesome command of rhythm, texture, phrasing, and dynamics, often sounding like a virtuoso jazz musician than a mere singer. His repertoire ranges from his own compositions to modern interpretations of the standards.

The Jazz Heritage Concert Series showcases the United States Air Force Airmen of Note with special guests. The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. It is comprised of eighteen musicians who tour throughout the United States twice a year, one of the few big bands these days to do so, in addition to international and jazz festival performances.

This year's series is guest hosted by Dick Golden.

Tune in for part one of the 2009 Jazz Heritage series with The USAF Airmen of Note featuring special guest Kurt Elling Thursday night at 8:00pm on KIOS-FM.
