Jobs, Social Security, health care on minds of Omahans at first town hall meeting

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Jobs, Social Security, and the economy were on the minds of Omahans at Congressman Lee Terry's first town hall meeting Saturday.

More than 50 people attended the meeting at Miller Park. It's the first of three town hall meetings Terry has planned in Omaha. About a dozen attendees held signs saying "close the Social Security tax loophole, the fair fix for Social Security."

Terry says Congress should consider multiple options to ensure the future of Social Security. "You can raise the cap, that'll help, you can raise the age, it could be a combination, raise the age for me to 67, maybe it goes to 68, there are a lot of things on the table and I think they should be on the table for discussion."

Terry also discussed uncertainties in the health care law following last week's federal court ruling that the law's individual health insurance mandate is unconstitutional.

Two town hall meetings are scheduled Tuesday in Omaha.
