Johanns: economic stimulus plan might not create jobs

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Nebraska's Junior Senator has doubts that the $920 billion economic stimulus bill will actually stimulate the economy.

During his weekly conference call with reporters, Senator Johanns expressed concerns about the stimulus package. The U.S. Senate is currently debating the stimulus plan. Johanns says many of the items in the stimulus are better suited for a budget plan.

Johanns says while the stimulus plan claims to create jobs, it actually will put a significant burden on taxpayers. He estimates every American family could owe more than $500,000 to pay for the debt and promised spending in the stimulus package.

President Obama on Thursday urged Congress to pass the stimulus plan in short order.
