Last Call celebrates 14th Anniversary

Program will feature music from Trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith.By Christopher Cooke

Omaha, Nebraska – Last Call celebrates its 14th Anniversary Saturday night on KIOS.
Join host Chris Cooke as he presents an artist spotlight on legendary trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith and his 2 CD set, Spiritual Dimensions. Wadada Leo Smith is one of the most important personalities in Avant-Garde music. Listen to the Golden Quintet's performance of "South Central L.A. Kulture" and you will hear an artist who is more than capable of playing in the fearless, exhilarating style of Miles Davis in the 1970s--but charts his own direction based on decades of music performance, study and instruction. Other highlights from the 2 disc set include "Angela Davis" and the disc set closer, "Joy: Spiritual Fire: Joy".
The Last Call started on KIOS in January 1996. Evolving over the years, the program has become one of the few Jazz programs regionally to feature progressive, avant-garde, electric, and groove oriented Jazz. The show's host, Chris Cooke, is a 20 year veteran of local public radio, hosting late night jazz radio programming in the area since 1989.
Join the 14th year anniversary celebration of the Last Call Saturday night at 11pm on KIOS-FM, Omaha Public Radio.
