The open enrollment period for the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties is underway.
During open enrollment, parents can apply for their children to attend school in any of the 11 Learning Community school districts. Lorraine Chang, chairwoman of the Coordinating Council’s Subcouncil 3, says more than 6,000 students have enrolled in a school other than their neighborhood one in the Learning Community's three-year history.
"And I think it’s really a matter of family choice. Every child has different needs, and there are so many wonderful schools across the 11 districts that it’s a great opportunity for families to find the right fit for their student."
Chang says parents who want to explore open enrollment options for their children should visit the schools in addition to applying. The application deadline for open enrollment is March 15.
