Omaha, NE – A state Senator from Omaha is backing legislation that would require protestors to stay 500 feet away from a funeral.
State Senator Bob Krist introduced the legislation last week. Currently, state law says protestors have to remain 300 feet away. Krist says he received many suggestions for changing the legislation, including an outright ban on protests at funerals. He says a 500 foot restriction makes the most sense and protects the rights of both the families and the protestors.
Krist says at least four other states already have a rule requiring protestors to stay 500 feet away from a funeral.
If the legislation passes, it would become law within 60 to 90 days of the Governorsigning it.
