LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Kidnapping and sexual assault charges have been filed against a Lincoln man accused of abducting a sleeping 8-year-old girl from her home.
Online court records say 20-year-old Cody Riddle was charged Monday and remained in custody on $500,000 bail. A public defender will be assigned to the case.
Investigators have said they suspect Riddle went into an open garage to steal something late Wednesday or early Thursday and then went into the house and saw the girl. She told officers she woke up in a strange garage with her hands bound and her mouth taped over. She says the man there eventually freed her after telling her he'd kill her and her family if she talked.
A court document says Riddle acknowledged to officers that he'd sexually assaulted the girl.
