Lincoln victim's family seeks mercy for suspect

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are still searching for a 16-year-old girl suspected of stabbing another girl at Lincoln Pius X High School.

Lincoln Police Capt. Michon Morrow said Tuesday morning that there'd been no sighting of the suspect or the car she's driving. The Associated Press generally doesn't use the names of juvenile suspects.

Police say the stabbing occurred around 9:45 a.m. Monday inside a bathroom at the parochial school. The victim was identified as 17-year-old Ellen Kopetzky. She was taken with several cuts on her face to a Lincoln hospital. Family members say she's undergone surgery.

Kopetzky's family also issued a statement asking people to pray for the suspect and her family and treat them with respect and mercy.
