Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival - Celebrating 50 Years

Omaha, Nebraska – KIOS celebrates 50 Years of the Monterey Jazz Festival with a one hour documentary Thursday May 29th.

Join us for a one hour celebration of the golden anniversary of the Monterey Jazz Festival, one of America's cultural treasures. Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival - Celebrating 50 Years airs Thursday May 29th at 8:00PM and tells the story of the festival, from its inception in 1958 to today. Trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard is the host. Blanchard was Artist in Residence for MJF/50.

The program features interviews with: Dave Brubeck; Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong's 1958 panel discussion at the festival; Dr. Herb Wong, jazz educator who has attended every festival year; Bill Minor, author and festival historian; Tim Jackson, GM of the Monterey Jazz Festival and Paul Vieregge, 50 year veteran stage manager of the festival.

The program also features newly released archival music, captured from the festival stage including Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan and Pat Metheny.
