Live From the Village Vanguard Webcast

January Concert features Kurt Rosenwinkel.By KIOS

Omaha, Nebraska – Almost two years after making his latest recording live at the Village Vanguard (the two-disc set The Remedy), Jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel returned with his quartet this week for a special night of music.

Kurt Rosenwinkel performed Wednesday night, January 7, at the Village Vanguard in New York City. That concert is available for listening and download over www.npr.org/music as part of the Live from the Village Vanguard Webcast series.

Rosenwinkel's immediately recognizable style has earned him a well-deserved status in the jazz world. A fearless explorer of the avant-garde, he is also a master of mainstream jazz and has recorded several fine albums.

One of the world's preeminent jazz venues, the Village Vanguard has presented nearly all of the greatest musicians in jazz since 1957. Renowned for its rich history and great acoustics, over 100 commercial albums have been recorded within the triangle-shaped basement room in New York's Greenwich Village.

Live At The Village Vanguard is a collaboration between WBGO and NPR Music presenting live broadcasts from the legendary club, both on air and streaming online. WBGO's Josh Jackson hosts all the concerts; you can also read his take on the events on WBGO's live blog and join the discussion in a chat room. After each show is over, NPR Music will host the archived recordings of all the concerts of all the concerts at www.npr.org/music.
