Local Child Service Program Seeks 200 Volunteers to Aid Omaha's Youth

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Partnership for Our Kids is looking for about 200 volunteers to assist area youth this school year.

Jessica Warren is a recruitment specialist for the Partnership for Our Kids. She says the program offers volunteers the opportunity to give back to the life of a child in a meaningful way without a major time commitment. Warren says there are two ways to get involved. Volunteers can be a goal buddy for an elementary-age student or a group mentor for middle and high school-age students.

Group mentors meet with students twice a month directly after school. Warren says once inside the meetings, the group mentors work on small group activities that are really tangible for kids, including academic success, goal setting and time management.

Goal buddies are cheerleaders for the elementary school students. Warren says each student sets a goal for reading, math and life skills. She says, "At the end of each quarter we have a huge celebration to recognize everyone who worked really hard in that quarter and reached their goals."
