By Local/Buy Local is the theme of Shelterbelt Theatre's upcoming season

The theme of the Shelterbelt Theatre’s 2016-2017 season is By Local/Buy Local.  Their 24th season only includes playwrights from Omaha, Lincoln and Council Bluffs.

Roxanne Wach, Executive Director for Shelterbelt Theatre, says staff started reading submissions last October and finished reading this past May.

Wach says local playwrights have first precedence, particularly if they’ve had their scripts performed at the Great Plains Theatre Conference.

She says additionally, playwrights invited by board members may submit as well.

"Otherwise, we were finding that we were getting a lot of scripts from underdeveloped writers from New York, for instance, and you know, people in New York have lots of opportunities  that people in Omaha don’t.  So we really wanted to give people a chance to play with us.”

Wach says the new season features a play called Revelation by Samuel Brett Williams and a musical titled Catherland with book and lyrics by Becky Boesen and music by David von Kampen.
