Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains -- 2017 Finals April 20th and 22nd

Louder than a Bomb: Great Plains, the largest youth poetry festival in the area, holds its 2017 team finals competition this Thursday, and its individual finals on Saturday in Lincoln.

The Nebraska Writer’s Collective sponsors the 42 Nebraska teams, and four high school teams will compete in the team finals  --  Omaha Burke, Omaha North, Skutt Catholic and Westside.

Helen Whetstine a senior at Millard North, has been involved with Millard North’s Louder than a Bomb, or LTAB, team for two years now. She says it’s about a lot more than just competition.

“To be honest, Louder than a Bomb isn’t so much about the scores, it’s about the writers and the people who make friendships and have the opportunity to express themselves. It’s all original pieces, and they are representing so many people of diverse backgrounds and diverse interests. It’s a really great opportunity to learn about our community, I think, because there are so many unique individuals.”

Whetstine will participate in the LTAB individual finals on Saturday.

The LTAB Team Finals take place this Thursday, April 20th, at 7 p.m. at the Holland, and the individual finals are Saturday, April 22nd, at 2 p.m. in Lincoln at UNL’s Nebraska Union.
