Man accused of killing four people in Omaha now also charged with assault

A man charged with the murders of four people in Omaha now also faces assault charges.

Dr. Anthony Garcia appeared in Douglas County Court Tuesday morning on two counts of assault of an officer. He faces five years in prison on each count if convicted.

Garcia allegedly punched and kicked two corrections officers on Friday, as he was coming off of recreation time at the jail. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing, meaning the case will be bound over to district court.

Garcia is also awaiting a pretrial hearing on four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Dr. Roger Brumback and his wife, Mary, last May…as well as the killings of Thomas Hunter and Shirlee Sherman at a Dundee home in 2008.
