MAPA to host public workshop on planning around Offutt AFB

The Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, along with Offutt Air Force Base, state and federal agencies, local school districts and area chambers of commerce are working together to prepare a Joint Land Use Study.

Matt Roth, Assistant Planner with MAPA, says the study is a planning effort between Offutt and the surrounding communities.

Roth says there will be a public meeting next week where people can learn more about the JLUS.

He says the JLUS will cover a 10-mile radius that includes Pottawattamie and Mills counties in Iowa and Douglas, Sarpy and Cass counties in Nebraska.

"We are currently in the process of collecting information.  We collected comprehensive plans and data from Offutt Air Force Base. The next public meeting will be in March or April.  We don’t have a specific date yet.  It depends on what information we get from the public and how that might change the scope of the JLUS.  We are hoping to have more in-depth information around a workshop and hopefully have a draft of the Joint Land Use Study around July of next year.”

Roth says one of the goals of the JLUS is to improve communications between Offutt Air Force Base and local jurisdictions.

The public is invited to attend the JLUS workshop on Wednesday, January 7th at 7:00.  The event takes place at the Bellevue Schools Support Center.
