MAPA Releases Top Projects for FY2017-FY2022, Seeks Public Input

The Metropolitan Area Planning Agency is seeking public feedback on its newly released prioritized list of top projects for MAPA funding in the Fiscal Year 2017-2022 Transportation Improvement Program.

Michael Felschow, Program Director for MAPA, says the top projects are ones that are already in the TIP.  He says these include some bridges on 72nd Street, work at 180th street, from Blondo to Maple and the Omaha Signal Network Implementation.

Felschow says the City of Omaha is trying to make their traffic signals into a smart system.

"So that as traffic increases along a particular corridor where this technology has been implemented, the signals can adapt to the traffic flows.  As we all know some people drive faster and some people drive slower.  The signals up and down stream of the corridor, let’s say Dodge or Center or even 72nd Street, can talk to each other.”

Felschow says this means if there’s a lot of cars in one direction but not so many in another, the traffic signals will be able to adjust their timing actively and in real-time.

MAPA is accepting public input on the prioritized list of projects in the TIP until April 29th.  Comments may be submitted via email to mapa@mapacog.org.
