Omaha, NE – Metropolitan Community College is reporting an increase in summer enrollment this year.

PR Director Sheila O'Connor says the numbers show a 16.2 percent increase in the total number of students this year from one year ago. She says there are a lot of reasons for that and certainly the economy is a driving force, especially for individuals looking for work-related skills. And we are welcoming more students who may attend other schools but choose to do some credits here during the summer. She says that a lot of individuals like to take their general education credits at Metro and possibly transfer them to a 4-year school that they may be attending during the rest of the year."

O'Connor says Metro's South Omaha campus posted the largest enrollment increase at 37%. The total number of students taking classes at Metro this year is 12,749.
