Men of Distinction Conference Set for October 30th

Metropolitan Community College in collaboration with the North Omaha Foundation will present the 5th annual Men of Distinction Conference on October 30th

The conference is meant to energize, inspire and engage young men in 11th and 12th grade about going to college as well as their future.

Cynthia Gooch, Associate Vice President for Equity and Diversity for Metro, says the conference will feature a guest speaker in both the morning and afternoon.

Additionally, there will be workshops on scholarships, how to finance a college education and why it’s important to have a plan for life after high school.

Gooch says Metro likes bringing people to campus so they feel less intimated about going to college.

"It’s a safe place where they can ask questions that they might otherwise be intimated to ask.  They are with peers and in the audience hearing from men that have overcome some of the obstacles that they may have been presented with or are presented with.”

Gooch says Dr. Ryan Roth from Community College of Denver will be the guest speaker in the morning and Robert N. Page, Jr., founder of the National Black Greek Leadership Conference will speak in the afternoon.

The Men of Distinction Conference takes place Thursday, October 30th from 8:00 to 2:30.  Information is available by emailing equitydiversity@mccneb.edu.
