Metropolitan Community College debuts new Fashion Design program this fall

Starting this fall, anyone interested in studying fashion design can do so at Metropolitan Community College.  Metro is offering a new fashion design program beginning September 6th.

Nanci Stephenson is the Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor for Fashion Design and Interior Design at Metro.

She says the first course will cover fashion design principles.  In the second quarter, that’s followed by a history of fashion course, taught by Stephenson.

Next year, Metro will offer fashion illustration as well as three apprenticeships.  Stephenson says Omaha Fashion Week will run the apprenticeships.

"So it might be assisting with the fashion show or aligning them with a photographer.  It might be help with modeling.  So it’s not just going to always necessarily be working with a designer.”

Stephenson says this program is the only one of its kind in the Omaha metro area.  The fall quarter begins September 6th
