Metropolitan Community College receives funding for IT program

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Metropolitan Community College is receiving a $1.8 million grant to educate and prepare a highly skilled Information Technology workforce.

The federal grant is funding a three-year pilot project that also involves Goodwill Association of Iowa and Nebraska, Dell Computers, and West Corporation. Metro Vice President of External Relations Jim Grotrian says the program is designed to prepare for than 470 individuals for IT jobs.

Grotrian says the information technology grant will allow Metro Community College to integrate some new initiatives in to its existing Information Technology curriculum and possibly add courses. He says there's a need in the Omaha community for highly skilled IT employees.

The pilot program is comprehensive, with internships, apprenticeships, education and workforce programs.
