MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is calling on the young and minority voters who powered her husband's rise to president to help re-elect Democrats in Minnesota.
Mrs. Obama headlined a get-out-the-vote rally for Sen. Al Franken and Gov. Mark Dayton in a north Minneapolis high school Tuesday afternoon. She spoke to a crowd of more than 2,000.
The first lady says the GOP is counting on low turnout among African-Americans and college students to win back control of the Senate and take governor's offices across the country.
Mrs. Obama stumped earlier Tuesday for Iowa Senate hopeful Bruce Braley, who is in a tight race against Republican Joni Ernst. Franken and Dayton are leading their GOP opponents in public polling.
